665kW / 615 kVA Solar PV System Car Park and Roof-Mounted System, Northam Boulevard Shopping Centre

In 2018, Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) delivered Western Australia’s largest car park solar PV system at its own Northam Boulevard Shopping Centre. As an in-house project, it reflects PAE’s commitment to leading by example and demonstrates our capability to deliver large-scale renewable energy solutions on assets within our own portfolio.

The integrated solar PV system delivers a total installed capacity of 665.28 kW / 615 kVA, comprising 898 car park–mounted panels and 1,217 high-efficiency 315 W Suntech rooftop modules. The array provides a combined embedded generation of 665 kW, supported by a robust inverter solution of 25 SMA Sunny Tripower units in 20 kVA and 25 kVA configurations.

The car park utilized a locally fabricated structure with custom, with roof purlins engineered at scale to support the large number of panels. Inverters were housed in purpose-built enclosures, ensuring safe operation and minimal disruption to Centre customers.

To meet Western Power’s export limitation requirements, PAE developed an integrated control  solution using a Zeco Marshall unit to manage exports from both the car park and rooftop arrays as a single system, one of the first application of this technology in Western Australia. As a 665 kW system, the project qualifies for annual LGC claims. PAE manages the lodgment process each year, securing ongoing financial benefits for the client. PAE also provides Annual Maintenance Contracts, ensuring the system continues to operate at peak performance throughout its lifespan.

Outcomes

PAE expertly delivered the 665kW solar carpark + roof-mounted system on and within the $2M budget. The entire project was completed without accident or incident. Delivered on time, within budget, and without incident, the Northam Boulevard Shopping Centre solar project set a benchmark for WA. It overcame complex structural and compliance challenges while providing lasting operational, financial, and environmental benefits reinforcing PAE’s ability to deliver safe, innovative, and future-ready renewable energy solutions.

  • The car park (898 solar modules) and roof top (1,217 modules) will produce a combined 1 million kilowatt hours per annum over their 25 year warrantied life, the equivalent of planting 19,000 trees every year.
  • The installation will supply 40% of the shopping centre’s annual electricity requirements.
