Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was awarded the contract to design and install a 34 kWp / 30 kVA rooftop solar PV system at Guildford Primary School under the Department of Education’s Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund Program 2023–2024.
Project Objectives:
By generating clean, onsite energy, the solar system not only mitigates the impact of rising electricity costs and potential grid disruptions but also provides long-term financial savings supporting the school’s environmental stewardship and energy efficiency goals. This also aligns with Western Australia’s Climate Policy, which targets net-zero emissions by 2050 and aims to improve climate resilience across sectors.
The system comprises 68 high-efficiency 500 W Trina Solar panels paired with two robust Fronius Symo 15.0-3-M inverters, offering reliable and scalable renewable energy aligned with the City’s broader sustainability objectives. The installation was successfully commissioned and brought online in April 2024.
Operational Insights:
Peak solar generation is typically observed during the summer months. On a representative day in January, the system produced 183.13 kWh of electricity, as shown in Figure 1, with approximately 87% of the school’s total energy consumption met directly by the solar PV system. This demonstrates the system’s strong performance and its effectiveness in significantly reducing dependence on grid electricity.

In line with Western Power’s regulations for commercial solar installations, export capacity is limited to reduce potential impacts on the local electricity network. Accordingly, the Guildford Primary School system has been configured with an export limit of 1.5 kW. This ensures that excess solar generation is either self-consumed onsite or curtailed, with minimal to no energy exported back to the grid.
