162 kWp / 135 kVA SOLAR PV ROOFTOP SYSTEM

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) partnered with the City of Melville to deliver a series of small to medium-scale rooftop solar PV installations across key community facilities, aligning with the City’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy adoption. The collaboration began in August 2021 with the design, supply, and installation of an 18 kWp solar PV system at the Willagee Community Centre Building. The system was carefully engineered to maximize renewable energy generation while seamlessly integrating with the facility’s existing infrastructure. Following the successful performance of this initial project, the City of Melville engaged PAE again in September 2022 to deliver two additional installations at the Point Walter Golf Centre and the Bull Creek Community Centre. Building on this ongoing partnership, the City further entrusted PAE in August 2023 with the delivery of a larger-scale solar project at Tompkins Park.

Collectively, these installations produce approximately 253,843 kWh of renewable energy each year, helping to offset around 205 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, In addition to the substantial environmental impact, the projects have enabled the City to significantly reduce operational energy expenses, enhancing financial sustainability while continuing to deliver essential community services. The success of these projects has fostered a strong and trusted partnership between PAE and the City of Melville, laying the foundation for future collaboration on sustainability and clean energy initiatives

Willagee Community Centre

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was engaged by the City of Melville to design, supply, and install a medium-scale rooftop solar PV system at the Willagee Community Centre Building. With a total capacity of 18 kWp / 15 kVA, the project was successfully commissioned in August 2021.

The system comprises 36 high-efficiency Trina Solar 500 W panels paired with one Fronius Symo 15 kVA inverters, delivering seamless integration, reliable performance, and centralized control for optimized energy management. The system was installed meticulously as delicacy was required for the shading and mechanical services on the roof, which was successfully done. The City’s investment will deliver savings to the tune of over $8,500 per annum and upwards of $200,000 over the lifetime of the system.

This installation is designed to generate approximately 28,908 kWh of clean, renewable energy annually, offsetting an estimated 22,240 kg of CO₂ emissions each year. The environmental impact is comparable to the carbon absorption capacity of around 1,022 mature trees annually, supporting the City of Melville’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.

Bull Creek Community Centre

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was engaged by the City of Melville to design, supply, and install a medium-scale rooftop solar PV system at the Bull Creek Community Care Centre. With a total capacity of 36 kWp / 30 kVA, the project was successfully commissioned in September 2022.

The system comprises 72 high-efficiency Trina Solar 500 W panels paired with two Fronius Symo 15 kVA inverters, delivering seamless integration, reliable performance, and centralized control for optimized energy management. The key challenge being that it is an operating library, with patrons and regular general public traffic. This was mitigated very safely with no incident or accident, thanks to the extensive experience of Perdaman Advanced Energy in working within these type of environments.

This installation is designed to generate approximately 57,816 kWh of clean, renewable energy annually, offsetting an estimated 40,240 kg of CO₂ emissions each year. The environmental impact is comparable to the carbon absorption capacity of around 1,849 mature trees annually, supporting the City of Melville’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.

Point Walter Golf Course

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was engaged by the City of Melville to design, supply, and install a medium-scale rooftop solar PV system at the Point Walter Golf Course. With a total capacity of 36 kWp / 30 kVA, the project was successfully commissioned in September 2022.

The system comprises 72 high-efficiency Trina Solar 500 W panels paired with two Fronius Symo 15 kVA inverters, delivering seamless integration, reliable performance, and centralized control for optimized energy management. The installation was done over a 6-day period and there was no disruption to any golfing activities which proved to be a very successful project from start to finish.

This installation is designed to generate approximately 50,900 kWh of clean, renewable energy annually, offsetting an estimated 40,720 kg of CO₂ emissions each year. The environmental impact is comparable to the carbon absorption capacity of around 1,870 mature trees annually, supporting the City of Melville’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.

Tomkins Park

  • Annual Savings – 81 tonnes CO2

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was engaged by the City of Melville to design, supply, and install a medium-scale rooftop solar PV system at Tompkins Park. The project, with a total capacity of 72 kWp/ 60 kVA, was successfully commissioned in August 2023.

The installation features 144 high-efficiency Trina Solar 500 W panels, integrated with three Fronius Symo 20 kVA inverters, ensuring seamless performance, reliability, and centralized control. Prior to installation, The site is mainly used for Rugby and other sports activities and is a significant community landmark which is operational on a daily basis on the Melville peninsula. Perdaman Advanced Energy had to ensure meticulous safety measure were in place with patronage on a daily basis and worked continuously with the City to accomplish a smooth delivery of the projects. Day to day challenges with the patron activity and after hours shutdowns were mitigated by PAE’s experience and ability to accommodate all the requirements.

The system generates approximately 124,843 kWh of clean, renewable energy annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of 102,371.3 kg of CO₂ emissions each year. This environmental benefit is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 4,702 mature trees annually. The project strongly supports the City of Melville’s sustainability and climate action commitments by reducing reliance on grid-supplied electricity and contributing to long-term environmental benefits.

Final Words – It is hoped that future sustainability initiatives such as these across the city will be undertaken to help create a better tomorrow, by taking the action required today. In the meantime, the stewardship that The City of Melville is displaying towards its community, as well as its leadership amongst Western Australian Local Government Authorities at this time, must be applauded.
