36kWp / 30kVA SOLAR PV ROOF-MOUNTED SYSTEM

Perdaman Advanced Energy (PAE) was awarded the contract to design and install a 36 kWp / 30 kVA rooftop solar PV system at Bindoon Primary School, under the Department of Education’s Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund Program 2023–2024.
Project Objectives:
- Reduce electricity expenditure through self-generation of clean energy
- Facilitate the adoption of renewable energy in public infrastructure
- Align with Western Australia’s Climate Policy, which targets net-zero emissions by 2050 and aims to improve climate resilience across sectors
The system comprises 72 high-efficiency Trina Solar 500 W panels, connected to two Fronius Symo 15.0-3-M inverters, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient energy generation. The PV modules were installed across the Early Learning Centre (ELC), Music, and Arts Buildings, optimising roof space and load distribution. The system was successfully commissioned and energised in April 2024.
Operational Insights:
The system incorporates smart monitoring and provides real-time, hourly consumption and generation data, enabling detailed monitoring, performance analysis, and improved energy management.
On a typical school day, the system generates approximately 148.5 kWh of electricity, closely matching the school’s daytime energy demand as shown in Figure 1 thereby minimising grid dependency and enhancing solar self-consumption.

The system is equipped with dynamic export control functionality, allowing it to regulate the amount of energy. The system is equipped with dynamic export control functionality, allowing it to regulate the amount of energy fed into the grid in accordance with Western Power’s export limit of 1.5 kW. This is particularly critical during periods of reduced onsite demand, such as public or school holidays, as illustrated in Figure 2.

On an annual basis, the system is projected to offset around 50.9 tonnes of CO₂, significantly contributing to the school’s sustainability targets and environmental objectives.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the school has achieved a reduction of over 55% in annual electricity costs. These savings allow for the redirection of operational expenses towards enhancing educational programs and infrastructure development, supporting long-term value for the school community.
