LATEST UPDATES – Cheaper Home Battery Program

Finally, it looks like the Federal rebates (Cheaper Home Battery Program) is pushing forward from the 1st of July 2025 onwards. Here are the latest updates for consumers from a Webinar organized by the Clean Energy Regulator on the 27th of May 2025

• Households, small business and Community organisations will be supported by the program
• The Cheaper Home Battery Program is designed to supper around 30% discount of the Battery costs
• The program will support single batteries or modulate batteries from a minimum of 5kWh to 100kWh, however, the rebate support will only be applicable upto 50kWh storage capacity
• The support will be through STC’s, similar to the Solar rebate program, and will be an upfront discount to the client.
• There will be 9.3 STC per kWh for 2025, and this will gradually reduce until 2030

• Installation is eligible only once per premise
• The batteries must have VPP capability
• The batteries must be on CEC list of approved batteries
• The batteries must be connected and commissioned only after July 1, to be supported under this program

  • State and territory safety authorities
  • SAA
  • State and territory Electrical regulators
• Property damage
  • Clean Energy Council
  • State and territory Electrical regulators
  • State and territory Emergency Services
• Consumer Issues
  • Standards Australia
  • ACCC and State Consumer bodies
• The Federal Rebates may be able to be stacked with State Rebates, however, this can only be confirmed once the State confirms their roll out plans

Who do I contact for installing my batteries!

Installing a battery for a Solar system is not everybody’s cup of tea. It requires an in- depth knowledge of Australian standards and wiring rules, to ensure that they are installed in a ‘safe area’, wired to specifications, and fulfilling all safety aspects.
